April Prompt A Day: April 1, 2016

Spread Your Wings

This brings to mind the old song by REO Speedwagon. "Time For Me to Fly." So, what do I do when I think of a song from days gone by? I head on over to YouTube and start going down memory lane. I watched some old REO videos of "Time For Me to Fly." Starting with 1981 and then fast forwarding to 2010. Yeah, Kevin Cronin has aged... as have we all. But, man. He's 65 years old and he still rocks. Is he as good as he was back in the day? Maybe not, but he's still damn good.

Then I decided to listen to another oldie... "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" by Meat Loaf. I still know all the words to that one. I probably wore out an eight-track tape or two of "Bat Out of Hell" by Meat Loaf. That was probably one of my all time favorite songs. The dude never was much to look at, but he sure can sing.

Isn't it interesting how you can listen to old songs and remember exactly what you were doing at that point in your life? The time when those songs were popular? I remember seeing REO live. More than once. The first time was when their Hi Infidelity album came out. And the song that relaunched their career, "Keep On Loving You." (In my opinion, anyway.) I remember which guy I was head over heels infatuated with at them time.

"Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" that one came before the REO tunes... Once again, I remember so much. Music brings back so many memories. I may not remember what I ate for lunch yesterday, but by God, I remember what was happening in my life when these songs were popular.

And finally, I'll leave you with another one of my favorites... I was dating my first ex-husband at the time. Because, who hasn't felt this way at one time or another?!

Every now and then
I get a little bit tired
Of listening to the sound of my tears

Every now and then
I get a little bit nervous
That the best of all the years have gone by
