January 3rd, 2014 StoryStarter prompt: The bite of the wind and the driving snow made the mundane trek from house to car seem like a trip to Hell froze over...

I went up to my mom and dad's for Christmas. They live in Iowa. The temperature was forecast to be a record-breaking cold -- and it did hit minus 18 the area. Do you know how cold it has to get to be "record-breaking cold" in Iowa in December? Hell froze over, that's how cold. When I moved to the St. Louis area in January 2007, I never expected for the temperature variance to be so wide in the wintertime. On average, it is about ten degrees warmer here than it is in Iowa City, Iowa on a daily basis. I've gotten soft... Yes, it still gets cold in Missouri, but last night at 9:30, it was 11 degrees here and MINUS 1 in Iowa. 12 degrees difference. We both have snow on the ground right now, thanks to Wednesday night's dropping of a few inches.

When I got home from work Thursday night, I shoveled the driveway...not the whole driveway, (I'm not totally insane,) a path wide enough for the car to come and go from street to garage and back. I also cleared off the front sidewalk -- Amazon has packages for me today! My legs were numb, my fingers were numb. Not gonna sucked. I hate winter.

Anyway. I can't think of any made up story that fits today's prompt any better than real life in the Midwest in winter where the bite of the wind and the driving snow make even the mundane trek from house to car seem like a trip to Hell Frozen Over...
